Major progress on the swimming pool and gym!
Alderney Community Sports Centre, a charity registered in Guernsey, is planning to build a 25m X 6.5m indoor heated swimming pool with a gymnasium at the site of the existing outdoor shallow pool at St Anne's School. The 3 lane pool will be 0.9m at the shallow end and 1.5m at the deep end, conforming to BSA requirements.
The gym will hold at least 6 modern machines and free weights.
Thanks to the 1152 residents and visitors who signed our petition, the Alderney States Members have agreed to put up £250,000 of matched funding towards this project.
With all the generous contributions and offers of cash, materials and services totalling over £500,000, which is sufficient for the basic building. We are now aiming at another £75,000 to provide equipment such as a disabled hoist, additional storage, better car parking and improve the structure with more solar panels and better insulation to reduce running costs. This is the link to the business plan, we welcome all comments and suggestions
The facility will be open every day to all the community, the school, those with special needs, visitors and clubs. The school will have priority during school hours.
Our fundraising team is now busy gathering the final money needed to make this project a reality. If you believe that a pool and gym are essential for our island, please contact the team and give generously in money, materials and labour. See details on the sponsorship opportunities page .
